Thanks for this, Dee! I had a similar, not same but adjacent, experience following a brain injury some years ago. Even though I never really considered myself a writer in the traditional sense, writing my has become a way of holding thoughts, making sense of experience, learning once again to notice that «vast, beautiful, interesting world » you describe so well :)
We also have a similar magnetic pull towards art and design, which has been the heart of my career before and after the brain injury, and all of this together makes me so happy to have found your substack. I’m honestly excited to read more of your work!
I also find it funny that many of the writers on here who are asking the same questions that have been haunting me lately seem to be either in London or from London. Perhaps our paths will cross one day!
hi Nikki, thank you for sharing your story. I’m glad the post resonated with you! I’ve been thinking more about this whole writing business since publishing it, and I love that, if we let it, the mind seems to know how to heal and activate itself. that it so often happens through writing, storytelling, connection, and creativity feels biologically SO wise. your story and mine are both tangible examples of how much we depend on these things.
I know of many interesting creators in London too, but having only just started, I haven’t actually met many of them. Perhaps we should fix that oversight!

Thank you for sharing your story! I, too, like to know about the lives behind the writers I enjoy!
